Kurt Schwitters, Mz 231 Miss Blanche, 1923, collage.

Kurt Schwitters was born 125 years ago today. As a pioneer of collage, Schwitters had an important influence on Rauschenberg. After seeing a show of Schwitters’ works at Sidney Janis gallery in 1959, Bob said “I felt like he made it all just for me.”
